Spill/Fill Coming As Free Bandcamp Download on 9/15
Check out a teaser video for Wreck & Reference’s 75-track / 8-minute samples project now on Noisey. This samples album will be available via free download via Bandcamp on September 15th, 2014.
Spill/Fill follows the release of Wreck & Reference’s newest album Want (released in June on The Flenser) which Pitchfork said “broadens and warps the definition of metal”. Since the release of Want, Wreck & Reference have toured the U.S. with Deafheaven and Pallbearer, and have played one-off shows with bands like Earth, King Dude, Liturgy, White Suns, Marriages and more.
Wreck & Reference formed in California in 2011 by drummer Ignat Frege and instrumentalist Felix Skinner. They released their demo Black Cassette that same year, which immediately turned heads from critics and fans alike. The following year, Wreck & Reference released their debut full-length, Y̶o̶u̶t̶h̶, to more critical praise. Even more dark and mysterious than its predecessor, Y̶o̶u̶t̶h̶ catapulted Wreck & Reference to the forefront of unconventional heavy music. The band released C̶o̶n̶t̶e̶n̶t̶ EP in 2013 which was called “weirdly heavy and unnerving” by NPR, and their most recent full-length Want was released earlier this summer. This new samples project will close out the year for Wreck & Reference and more news and tour dates will be coming soon.
