Lebanon, Tennessee natives Willy & The Planks have delivered a collection of delicious and tasty blues rockin’, juke joint infused jams on their self-titled new album.
If you know me, you know how much I love the blues. Willy & The Planks just gained a new fan. This stuff is GOOOOOOOD! To make it even sweeter, this sonic deliciousness has been brewing not far from home!
My favorite thing about the blues is that you receive equal amounts of human emotion from opposite ends of the spectrum. Love and pain collide head on for an aural experience that sounds just as good coming from Willy & The Planks in 2017 as it did waaaaay back when Robert Johnson found himself at the crossroads.
Southern grit, Delta attitude, rock aesthetics and passionate songwriting plus musicianship result in a solid, cohesive blues record which deserves a home in every blues lovers collection. Willy & The Planks is an album you can come back to time and time again without a second thought.
Sweet guitar tones (Willy Gibbs), hypnotic rhythms (Chris Gibbs), and groovin’ bass (Mark Noble, also vocals) unite with that beautiful, down South, Mississippi River runnin’, Memphis spiced, juke joint sound for song after song of consistent listening pleasure.
All seven tracks get two thumbs up from me.
