Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
We all came up listening to rock and roll, and we’ve all had to deal with the various experiences we’ve had in our lives. I’m sure modern music has had some subconscious level of effect on us too. Really, we try to keep the music honest, and we don’t try to make it sound like any one specific genre. We all came up playing classical, jazz, show tunes and most of the styles you can think of too. I guess if you put it all in a pot and stir it up, that’s us.
-Mike
How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?
We’ve all been playing in various projects for the last ten or so years, but Wild Americans is just getting started. We just released our debut single, ‘I Wanna Take You Home’, and the rest of the record is due to drop September 9th. It’s a four track EP called ‘Lighten Up’.
-Andrew
Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?
Making music is a compulsion for us. We don’t need anyone or anything to tell us, or encourage us, to keep on keeping on. I know that sounds lame and cliché, but it’s true. We’re pumped to work hard and show everyone in the world what we’re cooking up in the lab.
-Andrew
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
We wanted to make something that felt real to us. We hope everyone digs it too, but we felt like we owed it to ourselves to do our best, and we would have to prove that to each other before we could convince anyone else.
-Andrew
What was the last song you listened to?
‘Fat Man in the Bathtub’ by Little Feat
-Andrew
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
I’d have to say CD’s for me, since my car doesn’t have a record player in it, unfortunately. – Andrew
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
As a listener, I usually find myself using Spotify if I’m streaming. I have the app on my phone and that’s convenient. – Andrew
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?
There are so many bands out there. A bunch are good, some suck, and there is everything in between too. People have to have the willingness to weed through everything else before they get to you, and when that finally happens, you get one chance to serve it up right. Otherwise, they’re on to the next thing. I don’t even blame them. I’m the same way.
-Mike
Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?
The tristate area is where we are focusing most of our efforts. Our fanbase here is loyal, super supportive, and loads of fun to hang with. People have been coming to check us out, and we haven’t even released the record yet. We’re pumped to branch out further once the music is up and out. -Mike
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?
Facebook and Instagram are solid social media outlets, but I’d direct people to our website: www.BeAWildAmerican.com
-Fred
Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?
Shout out to you for having us. Also, floss your teeth and stay in school. Last but not least, check out ‘Lighten Up’ when it comes out 9/9 and let us know what you think.
