Fink – Perfect Darkness
“Who is Fink?” That’s what I thought the first time I heard the name mentioned by a Facebook friend. It was one of those posts that had a Youtube link to a simple little video with the a picture of an album cover and a Fink song as the soundtrack.
The song was called “Honesty” and it was a brooding, emotional, almost scary, type of thing. All acoustic guitars and sedate, almost invisible strings – and the vocals delivered in an almost-mumble that sent me to Google to look up the lyrics.
The song built from a solo acoustic guitar to a full on crescendo of strings and nice loud snare pops; and the emotional intensity of the lyrics was brought to full boil by this. I listened to the song several times, while I purchased it as an MP3 download. The song is from Fink’s fifth release, “Perfect Darkness” on Ninja Tune.
Fink is the name the band has taken from frontman Fin Greenall, a Brighton based singer, song writer, guitarist, producer and DJ. Mr. Greenall is an in demand songwriter and collaborator with many popular acts in the UK, including Amy Winehouse, and the song “Halftime” appears on Winehouse’s posthumous collection “Lioness: Hidden Treasures.”
The band called Fink is made up of Fin Greenall, Guy Whittaker on bass, and Tim Thornton on drums.
