Let’s soak this one in for a moment. The band is Wheels of Industry; their album is titled Everything Is Not Enough.
Now if that isn’t symbolic, I don’t know what is. Without even listening to this record, I’m excited at the potential of depth and substance. So what actually happened when I did listen?
I was satisfied.
The overarching and/or underlying theme throughout this collection of songs is the dissatisfaction filling humans despite the abundance of wealth and opportunities surrounding us.
Despite being sonically different, the substance of this album parallels that of the themes touched upon in many an album and songs from Pink Floyd and other great songcrafters that have followed. At least this is how I felt after listening to the first five songs.
Sonically speaking, Wheels of Industry have a very uplifting, pop-ish, folk-rock sound that manages to have mass appeal while still delivering a full platter of insightful, wise, thought provoking lyricism.
Originally from Saskatchewan, Karl Jonasson is the mastermind behind Wheels of Industry. Living all over Canada, Karl now resides in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and has been working with our friends over at Oak Apple Records. A wise choice, in my opinion 🙂
From track 1 to track 10, I’m digging every song. Wheels of Industry has a sound that touches on the classic feel of folk rock but framed within the context of the present human situation. If I had to pick 1 or 2 songs I really dig, they would be “What’s Your Hurry” or “Hourglass Slide”…..or “Give It Up”.
