Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
Well, I drifted in a very natural way into this kind of music. My way of putting together a song and album, especially on Requiem for Myself, was very influenced by Pink Floyd, who introduced me into the concept album format and the psychedelic kind of production and instrumentation. Also Morphine and Bob Dylan have given me plenty of ideas about songwriting. Basically, my influences attracted me to themselves, to put it this way.
What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?
I started playing when I bought my first guitar. I was 17 and I basically had no idea of how many strings one had, but I wanted to try. A couple of friends showed me the basics and I worked my way up from there.
I don’t know exactly what drives me to push it out to the public, but I feel the unstoppable need to do so. In part, because I want to dedicate my life to music, and in part because I like playing live very much, I guess. I don’t know the exact answer to this question, to be honest.
Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?
My tastes in music have changed a lot since I started to listen to music. I started listening to guitar indie-rock bands, like Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes or Franz Ferdinand. Then I began to discover the music of the 60’s and the 70’s, like the Stones, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, The Doors and Zeppelin, and lately I’ve been very into Morphine and Nick Cave. I also like this new generation of bands, such as Father John Misty, Kyle Craft, Courtney Barnett and Tame Impala.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
Well, I started this project releasing “Demo”, at the beginning of 2015, basically to try to release my music and see what happened. Then I did Requiem for Myself, also on 2015, my first LP, when I got diagnosed with cancer. I tried to kinda leave something if I didn’t make it, and the whole record revolves around that topic. My last EP, “Bury Me With My Money”, is composed by two tunes from my previous band, Roulotte Roosters, and a Morphine cover. I felt like when we released the songs as Roulotte Roosters the recording did not do quite justice, and I wanted to know how would they sound like if I did them on my own.
So, to sum up, every record I did tries to accomplish something in it’s own way, creatively speaking. As a whole, is something that I do and can’t stop doing even if I wanted to, even if I can’t understand why.
What was the last song you listened to?
Whisper, by Morphine.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Vinyl for my room, CD for my car, MP3 for the phone.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I prefer Spotify for streaming, basically because I have not tried anything else – I’m veeery lazy about this kind of stuff – and Bandcamp for buying/selling. I feel that Bandcamp is the most straightforward way to deal with the artist and making sure he/she gets paid.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?
It’s difficult to get to the people to listen to your music for the same very reason you said: there’s an overwhelming abundance on music. The biggest challenge is to make people stop for a second and listen to the music, I think.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?
All of my music can be found in Bandcamp, and Spotify and the other usual streaming platforms. You can find out about the gigs on Facebook and Twitter.
Anything else you’d like to add before signing off?
I don’t know, check out my last EP and stay tuned, because I’m heading to the studio soon for my second LP!
