These Fine Moments are an Austin, Texas based duo who recently completed their fourth studio album, Patience, produced by Mark Hallman (release date September 1, 2015).
The sound is an evocative, minor key blend of ‘70s pop rock and contemporary indie pop, with rich imagery, lush vocal harmonies and catchy, melodic hooks.
“It comes at you from several directions,” says Hallman, a studio veteran known for his work with Carole King and Elyza Gilkyson. “There’s a ‘70s influence in there as well as a modern sound with an edge to it.”
Ahead of the release of Patience, the title cut from the record was selected to appear on Texas Music Magazine’s 2015 Summer Compilation, which is distributed to over 10,000 subscribers and media outlets.
Formed by Robert Watts and Hilary Kaufmann in 2010, These Fine Moments have been quietly assembling an arsenal of solid original material and a catalog of radio-ready recordings. The duo had the privilege of working with Hallman on their first two full-length efforts, These Fine Moments and Bright Idea, each of which garnered airplay on Austin’s local music programs. Sooner or Later, a 5-song EP produced by Stephen Doster in 2014, also made the rounds locally.
Robert is originally from the Beaumont, Texas area and lists Big Star, McCartney-Lennon, the Posies, the Jayhawks, Jellyfish and the Shins as his influences. He played in several Austin bands over the decades, and performed at the first SXSW.
Hilary is a New York native who paid her dues playing and traveling from NY to Florida to Nashville, eventually landing in Austin singing and recording with the Cosmic Dust Devils. Hilary also had the honor of singing on one of Rusty Wier’s last albums prior to his death.
