My friends at earcandy in the U.K. are on to an idea that’s bound to catch on. Check it, yo. What they do is set you up with a full backing band and a tome of a set-list for a great karaoke party. Yeah, I know I said karaoke; and if you don’t know what I think of karaoke, take a guess. But this is off the hook! Imagine how much fun your friends could have with a full band and lighting and the full jazz…
earcandy asked me to check out and review the mixes for the bands on their site which offers entertainment packages for all sorts of events. When I found Rock Idol I wasn’t quite sure what to say about the mix other than it was darn fine. What got me was the whole idea of the thing…
I’ve heard quite a bit from the musicians with earcandy, and it’s all top notch, so I can tell you right off “when they set you up with a band, they set you up with a band. This flat kills, man!
Indie acts in the states should pay attention, here.
This is one cool idea! From major corporate events to weddings and fancy private affairs to small, local gigs totally self-produced, this is one hell of a party idea. Karaoke is actually competition for many small groups and performers because of it’s popularity. Double down with treating the crooners like stars and you’re gonna have a blast!
Think of all the songs you’ve learned, jammed on, improvised at parties with friends, and you know, all of ’em. Now add the same list from your band-mates. You’re going to have a long list of possible cover tunes. With Rock Idol, you get just about every rock, pop or dance song you could want! Why not build a party scene and offer a karaoke setting around that list of songs? You’ve got all the stuff to do it with… start small…
Maybe I’m off my folding chair – I’ve been told such, before – but this sounds like a total balls-to-the-wall bash of a good time, to me. Think it over and get back to me, and when you start seeing the folks line up for your parties, be sure to tell them about Ben and Ed at earcandy and Rock Idol in jolly ol’ London.
I’ve been posting their mix and production reviews on smallbarnsound.com and you can check their outfit for yourself right here:
