Imagine traveling across 3 continents, 6 foreign countries, 3 Canadian provinces, and 20 U.S. states before you were 1 year old.
Sylvia, the daughter of international concert violinist Rachel Barton Pine, is already living the dream.
“My first exposure to music wasn’t on the radio or at a concert, it was the sound of my mother’s voice as she sang a lullaby to me, just as her mother had sung to her, and her mother before her,” says Rachel.
Continuing this tradition, Rachel has arrived with Violin Lullabies.
Rachel has been searching the archives of the world digging for lullabies by composers new and old. In her quest, she has managed to collect around 150 lullabies.
Her 25 favorites are featured on this new album.
Pop a bottle of wine, snuggle up next to your loved one(s), and enjoy an evening of relaxed, refreshing frequencies.
“There is something truly universal about the sound and feel of a lullaby melody, with a tempo and cadence derived from the way we intuitively rock our infants,” says Rachel. “Hearing these beautiful little songs takes us back to pleasant childhood memories. Lullabies are also the perfect building blocks to help children explore and create their own musical interests,” she adds.
The album was released via Grammy award winning label Cedille Records just in time for Mother’s Day.
Rachel is a busy gal.
On top of being a parent and touring the world as a concert violinist, she also runs the Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation which assists young artists through various projects including the Instrument Loan Program, Grants for Education and Career, Global HeartStrings (supporting classical musicians in developing countries), and a curricular series in development with the University of Michigan: The String Student’s Library of Music by Black Composers.
She is a Life Trustee of the Music Institute of Chicago which named the “Rachel Barton Pine Violin Chair” in her honor. She received the prestigious 2006 Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award for her work in music education among many awards.
She also creates music with her metal band, Earthen Grave.
Rachel hosts her podcast Violin Adventures and frequently shares her adventures via Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube.
