Feral Conservatives – Round the Corner
Formed in early 2011, Ferals self-released a series of little-heard EP’s before buying a $15 distortion pedal and touring up and down the east coast in a station wagon. 2014 saw the band record a series of singles with producer Mark Padgett (Mae). They joined EggHunt Records’ roster for their indie label debut, 2015‘s cassette EP, The Feeling Noise Becomes. Between bouts on the road, Ferals hit the studio to record their follow up full-length, Here’s To Almost — 11 explosive tracks careening between college-inspired alt rock and introspective folk, which debuted in the top 20 CMJ radio add charts in early 2016.
The song itself deals with escapism; as much a road anthem as it is a rallying cry to actually let go and embrace the uncertainty of uprooting.
The overriding concept for this video was the idea of noise. Enough has been said about noise in the “digital age” that at this point it just sounds like the last gasp of the Luddites. We wanted to turn the idea on its head a bit and poke fan at ourselves — as a band, and a band’s presence online and how we contribute to the digital deluge. I’m really interested in the idea of a band as this mysterious entity being lost. That allure, the cool factor, that gets pulverized by this need to sell our wares and find engagement in our online followers with a steady stream of attention-seeking content. So it’s a fun video — fast and bright — that works for a bit of intentional overload.
