PJ Orr – All Your Records
PJ Orr started music at an early age, picking up the trumpet at nine before starting on guitar at 15. In the years following he rose to prominence as the lead singer/songwriter in Sydney-based rock group Hailer, who released two albums and three EPs in addition to touring all of Australia and the USA. The band’s 2013 album, ‘Another Way’, did particularly well on the charts and college radio.
With US shows on the horizon and ample play on Australian radio the past month, PJ has a new album out. ‘Foggy Notion‘ hashes together acoustic folk and blues forms with a healthy doses of psychedelia underpinned by a cathartic story telling quality. Some are brave enough to say they can hear the cheapjack sneer of Marc Boland come early Primal Scream in a songs like “Animals” and “All Your Records“; others zero in on the Ariel Pink-esque psych-pop idiosyncrasies of “Blowing Zen” or the smokey beat of “Mona Lisa”. Happy Magazine (Mar 2016) has described ‘Foggy Notion’ as a genre-bending release that provides “a woozy cocktail of shoegaze, folk and blues” and is “the musical equivalent of a dress that changed color.”
