This isn’t Todd Warner Moore‘s first time gracing these pages. As I began listening to the instrumental, violin-driven song Lapis Largo, my mood finally began to change for the better. If anyone was going to flip the switch, I knew Todd could do it!
Based in Hong Kong, Todd has delivered his newest album, Starry Sounds.
Considering this isn’t my first…or second…or third time listening through this 10-track sonic voyage, I can safely report this album is packed with excellently arranged compositions that are rich with melody, full of emotion and played by a team of masterful musicians who know a thing or two about engaging chord progressions, the importance of tension and release, and how to consistently deliver that high level of song crafting quality from beginning to end.
Whether it’s the pristinely produced acoustic guitar in Meet In The Middle, the sweet steel guitar in Ebb and Flow, the vibrant violin in Lapis Largo, the catchy clarinet in Starting Again or any other sonic high points throughout the album, Todd and his creative team present us with a wide range of musical styles which have been seamlessly woven into an uplifting tapestry of highly enjoyable art.
If you’re a person who prefers genre labels, let’s call this Folk with hints of Bluegrass, an infusion of Classical, and a strong Pop sensibility.
Joining on Todd on this album includings: Leah Hart (backing vocals), Michael Kentish (backing vocals), Roberto Diana (electric guitar, nylon string guitar, mandolin, banjo), William Stewart (violin, viola), Daniel González (cello), Sashko Temelkoski (Clarinet), Issar Schulman (double bass), and Larry Salzman (percussion). Todd was responsible for vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboards and Starry Sounds. The album was mixed and mastered at SoundTheoryLab in Taiwan by Oliver Wagner.
