Holy mixing-tables, Batman! C-Zar Van Gogh is insistant that somebody is going to make me like hip-hop.
I got a disc from C-Zar Van Gogh outta the Big Apple, yesterday, and it is one of the best records I’ve heard all year. Yeah, didn’t expect that from me, did you? This cat is magnificent. Not since Arrested Developement singing about my home Tennessee, has this mid-tenn music hound been this excited about a hip-hop album. Smooth, that’s it; just freakin’ smooth.
Produced by Jake Palumbo of SpaceLab Recordings, we’re talking no less than seventeen top noch tracks that slam! Palumbo has worked with C-Zar to produce an album that flows like fine wiskey and water. Beats – tight and swingin’. Rhymes – smooth, greazy, inteligible ( yeah I can make out every word). Samples – is that a real piano?!
Ah, darn it stopped, replay! I’m not about to try to list al the track I’m diggin’ here. Every one of them has caught my attention.
Van-Gogh’s raps hit all subjects with a message. I got ta give him a real big thumbs up for keeping it clean! He does get into some sexy stuff, which ain’t my bag ( not that I don’t like sexy ), but it’s still plenty tasteful. The language is surprisingly friendly, he even filtered s**t in the one tune by choice. Mad respect, man!
From reverse kick drums, to strings, pianos, keys, cool vocal effects, and flawless performance, Palumbo and C-Zar Van Gogh have put together a tour-de-force masterpiece. Think I’m just jazzin’, ask Joshua Smotherman what it means when I talk this way.
This is a record by a true artist, and “This Time Next Year” it will be a hit. This is one the hard core bangers, the laid back puffers and fans of alt rock and classics will all love. Some of the best independent hip-hop I’ve ever heard.
