Without even choosing a lead single for the latest EP Vacant Seat, Patroniser was chosen by BBC Radio Scotland as “Single of the Week” while The Zenons were being interviewed at the station.
I say “The Zenons were” as if it’s a group but it’s actually the moniker of singer/songwriter Kal Turnbull. After putting a lot of energy to keeping a band together, Kal decided to start releasing music without one. The Zenons is the infectious and grooving result of that decision.
Patroniser is a catchy, well crafted, rock jam with an equally well produced animated video. Hard hitting drums, an uplifting and groovy distorted guitar progression and Kal’s engaging vocal performance equate to a polished, potent, radio ready single with plenty of pop appeal to last for the long term.
