Rick Webster is probably one of the hardest working guitarist and composers in Perth, Western Australia.
Recent winner of the International John Lennon Songwriting Contest (Jazz category) and finalist in the American Songwriting Competition 2012, Webster received his training from the Academy of Performing Arts with a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Music and an Advanced Diploma of Contemporary Music.
In other words, Rick knows his stuff. He actively works as a session player, makes himself available for gigs as well as filling in on tours and (when not performing) giving lessons.
He has supported many artists over the years including Hank Marvin, Daryl Braithwaite, Thirsty Merc, Ruby Rose, Mark Seymore, and a multitude of other creative talents.
He was the guitarist for ARIA award winning children’s entertainer Peter Combe and he has performed in several musicals in Perth including Sweet Charity and Seussical. Rick has also played alongside The Perth Symphony Orchestra and his travels have taken him through Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Asia.
So what’s up with The Rick Webster Project?
Well Rick has been releasing his own material since 2011 but his newest project is this band, led by vocalist Allira Wilson. The Rick Webster Project has already been nominated for several awards from the West Australian Music Industry.
The music? Well it’s souful, it’s funky, it grooves, and it’s the perfect jam for those moments when you need to sit back, relax, and just enjoy.
This is the sound of Norah Jones acting as lead vocalist for Steely Dan or perhaps Joss Stone taking over the lead of Dire Straits. The sound is classic.
The Rick Webster Project currently includes Rick on guitar, Robin Murray on bass, Bronton Ainsworth on drums, Glyn Macdonald on Keys, and Allira Wilson on vocals.
Now’s the part where you go grab your copy of the album. Then go connect with Rick on Facebook or Twitter.
