What happens when some dangerous sonic attitude gets infused with Mezcal tequila, Tarantino-esque sonic soundscapes, 60’s surf rock guitar vibes and a little Tex Mex?
Sydney, Australia’s The Mezcaltones might be as far away from Mexico as one can be but that doesn’t stop this invigorating, desert-weathered, sultry sounding sextet from rockin’ our socks off like Selma Hayek just walked through the room.
Once you start jamming to their new record, The Mezcaltones Second, it becomes immediately apparent that this group of highly talented desert wanderers have come to do more than just play some music. They’re here to put on a show! The Mezcaltones transport us to a world of cold nights, sun-scorching days, miles of barren wilderness and dusty drinks at remote saloons hanging with outlaws.
The Mezcaltones Second is packed with eight songs of upbeat, energetic, show-stoppin’, desert rockin’, outlaw vibin’ jams that consistently pack a potent rock and roll punch. This is one of those albums you can just turn up really loud, grab your air instrument of choice and then commence to jamming your heart out.
The talented creatives behind The Mezcaltones include Don Juan (Texan Time Keeper with a Smooth Tequila Feel), Don Too aka Col Padre (Raspy Lead Vocals dripping with Desert Soul), El Shango (Lead Guitar possessed with tangy, psychedelic blues, magic finger licks), Lucre (Filthy Lucre), Mimi (Spicy Seductress who shakes it like a Rattle Snake) and, last but never ever least, Neralita (Queen of Southern Rhythm Strummin’).
If you’re ever in an area where these guys and gals are throwing down live, I suggest you go enjoy the show! I can only imagine how epic it would be based on jamming this new album.
