Maury County welcomes newcomer, Mr. $waggitout, with his debut mixtape effort entitled, LOST FILES. With 22 hard-hitting tracks of pure street music, it should be a standout for summer 2013.
Hosted by Lawrence County native and area producer DJ Skinny, LOST FILES is very edgy with some mainstream appeal. It features some new names like Blaze, TD and Mr. 3 Point, as well as local legend and my family member, Balla Mac. Although not a project filled with heavy lyrical content, the stories told on these records puts you right in the thick of the drama by painting a mental picture of a hustla’s lifestyle of sex, drugs, love, money and murder, the key ingredients of a Dirty South Hip Hop gumbo and Mr. $waggitout makes sure you eat.
Just when I thought Hip Hop in Maury County was on the fizzle, LOST FILES keeps us on life support. The tracks are bananas and enough to hook you from one record to the next. Not many tracks, if any, could be considered fillers, and even if they’re not your cup of tea you’ll want to give them a chance. My favorite is the Dreaming freestyle.
Mr. $waggitout left room on the CD for the ladies also, showing a softer side of the rookie. He really made the effort to balance out the subject matter and take you on a journey through his life and times. Shit ain’t always sweet, but LOST FILES manages to show us how to make lemonade from lemons.
I would rate this mixtape a 4.5 for production, a 3 on lyrical content and about 3.5 overall. I will be playing this on my speakers this summer, all summer, and I recommend you do the same. Find LOST FILES on DatPiff. Job well done, Mr. $waggitout. With hard work, your future is looking very bright.
