Imagine you’re all alone in the middle of no where, on a night so dark you can’t see two feet in front of you. Then, a thunderous force, with a flood of radiant light overwhelms you. You try to stand still but something is overtaking you, commanding you to force your fist up towards the heavens. That is what it’s like to close your eyes and hit play on The Dreaming Society’s new, self-titled album.
Band members Shelah Kelso Strauss (vocals, piano), Karl Strauss (guitar), Christopher Schnack (drums), Angie (guitar), and Clarissa Novales (bass) come together to form a majestic, almost regal sound that will blow your mind.
Formerly known as The Patchwork Fallacy, this band’s first album named “(R)evloution” was released in 2009. The track “Slip Through The Static” won them a gig on OurStage.com opening for national acts such as Hanson and A Rocket to the Moon. “(R)evloution” was followed by “L’adonne” in 2010, which has some killer tracks on it as well such as “Superhero” and “Surface”. Their most recent album, “The Dreaming Society”, is a journey that leads you through a range of emotions from beginning to end. From “Silent Battleground” taking you to the front lines to “Shadows Linger” slipping around around you’re mind and not letting go. My only regret about listening to “The Dreaming Society” is that it had to end. In comes the repeat button.
With a foundation as solid as a rock, unstoppable guitars, and gorgeous vocals that cut through to your soul complemented with spot on harmonies, this band has the right formula. So take the journey. It winds down the path of musical expression and through the dark forest of instrumental proficiency. One thing is for certain, if you start, prepare to trek “The Dreaming Society” in its entirety because you won’t want to turn back.
