The Dalliance is an alt-rock/ power pop band with Darrell Long on drums, Greg Gilroy on bass and Barry Mangione on guitar. Like a lot of bands Long and Gilroy played in several projects before they came together with friend Mangione.
After one EP, a few years building their fanbase and then testing songs – the guys have delivered their first album Birth Love Death, which has a very 90’s Bush-Gin Blossoms-Better Than Erza Feel. And I mean this as a compliment.
Birth Love Death was recorded and mixed by the band in their studio, Disgraceland. The album starts as angsty and moody but way cleaner than your favorite thirteen year old’s bedroom. As it progresses, much like life, it matures naturally. This is personified no better than in Leave It All Behind an alt-rock plea to escape the hopeless.
The album has several good cuts. One of the more interesting songs is Broken Ballerina, a stripped down love song that is perfectly imperfect. It portrays the struggle we have all experienced while trying to hold onto that love-life you were trying so hard to fix.
The Dalliance has crafted a very solid album from start to finish. My favorite track is A Quiet Calm, a song of acceptance. Meeting that which you cannot change with a calm inside of you.
On a side note, I want to commend these guys on the charitable work they do.
