Miami and Nashville based country pop rockers Tell Her I Love Her have delivered a potent, powerful, infectious, radio-ready single titled Dancing With Dakota.
Eddy is an engineer who hasn’t been kissed in years. Dakota works in the service industry; accepting money for making men feel special, wanted and, in a twisted way, “in love”. Whether the service provided is bar tending, massage therapy, exotic dancing or any other profession where a woman accepts tips in exchange for being kind and flirtatious with men, Dancing With Dakota embraces a popular, not-so-classy situation of man visiting exotic dancer on a regular basis and mistaking her warm, welcoming attention as “love”.
When discussing the song, the band points out,
We believe this song is about a type of relationship that happens all across the world, in a variety of professions. Men fall in love their female bartenders, waitresses, even hair stylists as often as they fall in love with their exotic dancers. In many types of roles/jobs, especially those where tips are involved, their is an incentive for friendliness which can often be mistaken for interest.”
This song is definitely about a very common type of relationship we are all subject to at one time or another during our life span. One can’t help but appreciate how Tell Her I Love Her tackled this topic in a way that still appeals to mainstream pop and country/pop crossover outlets.
Dancing With Dakota has all the elements for a radio-ready, pop hit.
Fortunately by the end of the song, Eddy realizes that what “feels like love” only “felt like love” for the 3 or so minutes Dakota spends dancing for him each night. And although he still visits the club, Eddy has developed a more healthy relationship with his regular Dakota encounters, finding a deeper appreciation for the fact she is simply trying to work and feed her family…just like the rest of us. And that their “love” only existed within the confines of the club.
