When Nathaniel over at Oak Apple Records (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) sent over their new compilation of cover songs, I knew we were in for a tasty treat.
For Take Cover, Oak Apple artists cover songs from other Oak Apple artists for a twisted but contagious compilation. Each act was asked to choose 1 song from the other acts on the roster. The result is fantastic.
Case in point, the opening track is a Fear of Crime rendition of Bailey Sutton’s “Yellow Underwear”. As the masculine lead vox from Fear of Crime sings, “I have yellow underwear with cherries on it”, you immediately realize how much fun this project must have been.
I can’t choose a favorite but this album appeals to a wide range of musical palettes and I’m guaranteeing there is something for everyone in these 12 singles.
Oak Apple Records is a powerhouse indie label based in Edmonton which supports a wide range of artists from folk to punk to blues to electronic and many variations that lie within that spectrum. We have been covering their music for quite some time and this is an excellent addition to my OAR collection.
Go grab your copy right now. You will not be disappointed. Smile and enjoy some high quality tunes.
