Steve Markoff and Patricia Lazzara are preparing to release a new album, By Request, this summer. The album will consist of 15 recordings of cover songs that have been requested by friends, fans and their audience.
If you’ve been paying attention to these pages for any length of time, you’ve noticed our previous coverage of Steve and Patricia. This newest single, Collide (a Howie Day cover), is the latest recording to be released from the forthcoming album, which will include a few of the singles we have previously highlighted alongside 10 songs that will be brand new to our ears.
Depending on how closely you’ve been paying attention, you’ll also notice the talents of pianist Allison Brewster Franzetti gracing the soundscape of Collide. As is true with previous releases, Allison’s piano skills are a lovely addition and the perfect accompaniment to Steve and Patricia’s soothing flutes.
This instrumental, classically infused rendition of Collide finds the acoustic guitar driven rhythm of the original recording transformed into the emotive piano playing of Franzetti while Steve and Patricia deliver beautifully melodic flute progressions that match the engaging tones and heartfelt lyrics found in Howie Day’s delivery.
As mentioned previously, this isn’t the first cover released that will appear on the By Request album. Steve and Patricia have also released (I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight and Take On Me.
If you’re a fan of instrumental music or simply prefer classically infused covers of well known pop songs, I highly encourage you add Collide (or any of their previous singles) to your favorite playlists.
