Stephen Jaymes is a Los Angeles based singer songwriter, producer, and multi/instrumentalist.
His brand new folk punk noir, “Chief Inspector,” charters the story of a detective who becomes hunted down and eventually becomes the victim of his earlier desire to “lock a part of himself up.”
“I didn’t know what I was writing at first, but it turned out to be a kind of warning and a piece of advice, and it turned out I was talking to myself. I think now I was hearing from the part of me that was unhappy that I hadn’t really been making music in a while. So I rectified that, and now we are closer than we’ve ever been.”
Stephen is something of a self contained artist, in that he is a very gifted songwriter, singer and producer. With an alternative rock style, Jaymes writes with a punk influence too. Akin to the writing of Prince, for example, with clever turns of phrases and flashes of funk. In “Chief Inspector” , the listener can hear a kind of mixed frame of funky vocals, alt rock arrangements and the interesting, noir detective story.
The music promo video to go with this new single has also been released, with its dark noir theme and grainy film. Jaymes’ musical inspirations include David Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen and Elvis Costello. Some critics have compared his style to that of Johnny Cash.
