Marla Mase is a writer, performer, producer, singer, and songwriter from New York City.
Not limiting herself to music, she also writes plays, monologues, short stories, erotica, blogs and poems.
She just finished her first tour of China where she was invited by Friends of the UN to perform for UN Global Peace Day in Linzhou City. They gave Marla an honorary Messenger of Peace award for her visionary work as a songwriter and performing artist.
Obviously her fans reach all sides of the globe.
In the spirit of legends such as Patti Smith, David Byrne, Frank Zappa, and Iggy Pop, Marla’s music is epic.
She released the Deluxe Edition of her album Speak on February 28 and it includes 10 songs from the original 2010 album plus six new ones.
Her song AnnaRexia is spearheading the StayImperfect Project or Love Your Butt Campaign. Marla created this to help empower women to love and accept themselves and their bodies.
Proceeds from AnnaRexia go to theprojectheal.org, a nonprofit organization founded by two teenagers who survived eating disorders. This foundation raises scholarship money for girls whose families cannot afford to send them to treatment.
As if Marla wasn’t busy enough she is also developing The Speak Show, a multimedia concert/performance piece using music, spoken word, dance and visual imagery to explore the themes of confinement, sexuality, body image, trauma, oppression (internal/external) and freedom as a means of celebrating the reality of our human condition from the perspective of our planet’s women.
…Wow!
