It was a chance collaboration between Monica Sorenson and Rick Walker back in 2012 that sparked the emergence of San Diego based rock outfit Sometimes Julie.
Formerly guitarist for Chicago’s Greeley, Rick is a multi-instrumentalist who stretches, flexes, and exercises his creative muscles while creating Sometimes Julie‘s sound.
Monica paints the stories with the words, Rick crafts the soundscapes with his skill set. That’s how it was in the very beginning, at least. (You’ll soon learn the band has grown).
Releasing their debut in 2014 (Head First), then an EP in 2016 (Bright Side of the Line) and Breaking in 2018, Sometimes Julie have delivered their latest collection of songs with the release of Where Are You?
Along the way, Sometimes Julie saw its talent pool grow to include the creative skills of Bruce Paul Allen (bassist/co-writer), Anthony Sarain (keyboards, sax, flute), Alberto Moreno (lead guitar) and Dave Fuller (drums).
The entire band struts their stuff throughout the new album, Where Are You?
Masterfully crafted songs are delivered in a rockin’ package that walks the line between pop rock, alternative rock, indie rock, and it is packed with a heavy dose of radio friendliness which guarantees listeners across the wide range of rock styles will gravitate toward the sound and songs of Sometimes Julie.
Where Are You? is an album that deserves to be played from beginning to end; and then repeated often. You’ll find something new in each song every time you listen. There is a lot packed into this album…sonic-ly, lyrically, and creatively speaking.
No wonder Sometimes Julie has been referred to as one of San Diego’s most engaging bands!
