Full Q&A along with links and streams below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
That’s one of our favorite questions… We are from all over the world. Okan (guitar) and Can (bass, keyboards) are from Turkey and Sofia (vocalist) grew up in Switzerland with an American father and Chilean Mother. Coming together from different parts of the world has really helps create Seven Day Sleep sound. We have the typical Rock and Alternative Metal sounds but when you listen to the melodies and the symphonic sounds you also hear the cultural sound and influenced form Turkey. That’s why we think one of the main reasons why our music sound different than other bands in the Rock and Metal world.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
For all of us music has been a part of our lives forever and the reason why it continues to be in our life is simply that it’s a part of who we are. We can’t live without music and when we are not playing or writing it feels as though something is missing and there’s a void that need to get filled. The music is what keeps us going not other things that keep us doing music. Create, create, create.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
Well this is the first thing we release as Seven Day Sleep so we are experiencing everything for the first time. We’ve been in other bands before; Can and Okan were in a really big Rock band, MODELS, back in Turkey so I think it’s interesting to see how this new band will grow in the USA since it’s two completely different world culturally and within the industry so it’s been very exciting to see how things are slowly coming together after working on this for so long.
Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?
There no denying that the digital world is such an important factor into building a band now a days. It gives bands like us that are just getting start, a chance to spread the word and get our message and music out to people that aren’t in our local area and wouldn’t otherwise hear it. So having an online presence for us is everything that where we get most of our feedback from and where our fan base is the strongest. It has really helped us to also reach out to Okan and Can fans back in Turkey.
With being said it’s still challenging to be a band that trying to “make it” and break into the industry but like with anything in life you have to work hard for it so that what we are determined to do.
Where can we follow you online and hear more music?
You can listen to our single “Red lipstick Murders” on Youtube, Spotify, itunes and Google Play. Our Music video for the single will be out shortly and the rest of our EP will be coming out later in the summer.
