Picture this: “San Francisco’s Favorite Crooner” is gearing up to enchant everyone worldwide with his brand-new album, “Standard Time: Live in New York,” dropping today, December 1, 2023, under the indie label LML Music.
Russ Lorenson, a true champion of The Great American Songbook, has been wowing audiences across the US and Europe with his smooth tenor and charming vibes. His three outstanding albums, including those Christmas hits that are still rocking the airwaves after almost two decades, are still going strong as well as his second holiday album which snagged 4 stars from Downbeat and made their “Best Albums” of 2015 list.
But that’s not all. Lorenson faced a major health hurdle in 2021, dealing with HPV-positive tonsil cancer. He overcame it and, although it silenced his singing voice for some time, it couldn’t stop his creative spirit. Now, he is on fire with a bunch of interesting projects; bringing back his old hits, a children’s book inspired by his fan-favorite holiday track, “Jingles, The Christmas Cat,” and his first album in 8 years called “Standard Time: Live In New York.”
The new album is like a time traveling musical journey, recorded in the iconic Metropolitan Room, New York, back in 2008. It’s a mix of classic vibes and “modern classics,” influenced by legends like Michael Feinstein and Harry Connick Jr. Lorenson takes us on a ride through time with tracks like a haunting “Hello” by Lionel Richie, and heartfelt performances of “How I Will Say I Love You,” “Diamond In The Sky,” and the nostalgic “It’s Raining Memories.”
This album offers more than just a stroll down memory lane; it’s a seamless bridge between the classic tunes of the past and the potential classics of the future,, highlighting that The Great American Songbook didn’t stop evolving in 1959.
Lorenson is all about leaving a positive legacy, and his plans for children’s books and other special offerings show he’s on a mission to make a lasting impact.
