When Roger Brandon and Glenn Hubbard first got together in the ’80s to pass time by making music, they probably had no idea those jam sessions would evolve into their newest release Close the Club.
Rog & Glenn are just a couple of regular guys from the Boone, North Carolina area who have been writing songs together for years, but when they got together in March 2012; it was time to do something a little different.
Typically the duo comes together with their song ideas already mapped out but this March weekend was the festival of improvisation.
The result? A fun-filled, progressive-dance-rock extravaganza fueled by great musicianship and experienced songwriting skills.
Most importantly, this album is F-U-N!
Close The Club definitely rocks long after the bar make’s last call. Make sure to do some stretches and get your comfy shoes on because it’s time to heat up the dance floor.
Roger and Glenn emphasize that this record was a fun record to make and their goal was to make sure that fun came across to listeners.
After that initial jam session in March of 2012, the boys spent the next months refining and polishing the album to its current state.
Many of the parts are the original jams from that March weekend, but the guys decided it was best to go back into the studio to re-record certain parts. However, they stayed as close to the originals as possibly.
Considering the album was mostly improvisation, I bet they had a fun time learning their parts.
Brandon and Hubbard say much of the album has the spontaneous feel of newly inspired ideas, because that’s precisely what it is: improvisational songwriting recorded for posterity.
“We want people to understand that this is a recording of two guys having a great time and experiencing the reward that only a creative process can offer,” Hubbard said.
