South Florida based singer/songwriter/physician/Anesthesiologist Rob Alexander has delivered his latest album, Being Myself. Included in this album is a really special track, Friend of Mine (Elton’s Epic), that serves not only as a radio-ready, contemporary pop jam but also as a tribute and homage to Elton John.
Friend of Mine (Elton’s Epic) tells the story of Elton’s first trip to the States. During that trip, Elton performed at The Troubadour in Los Angeles where his epic, memorable, unforgettable rise to success began.
However, Rob has gone above and beyond for this tribute. It’s not just a song about Elton John. Friend of Mine (Elton’s Epic), as well as the entire Being Myself album, features musicianship from 3 of Elton’s band members (who took breaks during Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to record for the project at John Deaver Studios in North Hollywood).
With Matt Bissonette on bass, Kim Bullard on keyboards, and John Mahon on drums, Friend of Mine (Elton’s Epic) is possibly one of most potent tribute songs I’ve heard in 2019. Having been compared to Elton by other media outlets, it’s safe to say one can find 15 songs of Elton John-esque, energizing, uplifting, piano-driven pop throughout the Being Myself album.
Jam out to Friend of Mine (Elton’s Epic), as well as the entire Being Myself album, on Spotify. You can also find it on your streaming platform of choice.
