Richie Bean and Lonesome Highway have released their newest project, 7 – an aural voyage through various tasty flavors of Americana.
A collection of 7 songs, Lonesome Highway drives us through a series of stops along the Hickster life with stories of magical doughnuts, phony party girls, harvest eating prairie crows, and the various obstacles of life, love, loss and death.
Opening with the Crosby, Stills & Nash-esque “In The Fall” and closing with the nostalgic tale of a small town growing too big for it’s britches, Richie Bean manages to remind us of the greatness of music from yesteryear while still presenting something fresh and unique.
Richie’s ability to tell entertaining, quirky, and engaging stories sets his songwriting apart from the herd. I’m a fan.
In “Ballad of the Crows”, an acoustic and synthesized 12-string laced spaghetti-western, Richie tells the dramatic tale of a small town’s harvest being ravaged by crows…leaving the community to fight the prairie winter with little sustenance in storage.
“Doughnut Man (Wake and Bake)” is an anthem for Hippies and doughnut lovers everywhere. In this fable, a doughnut shop owner in Portland, Oregon makes it rain when an “alternative medicine” shop opens next door.
