About Moutainwalker
Mountainwalker is the emcee alias of Aaron Berg, a native of South Carolina (born 1984) currently based in Nashville, TN. His family has operated an independent record store (Horizon Records) since 1975. Originally an upright bassist, Berg attended the New School University’s prestigious Conservatory for Jazz & Contemporary Music in Greenwich Village, New York City for two years where he studied with Larry Grenadier, Reggie Workman, Cecil Bridgewater, Charles Tolliver, and Junior Mance among others before embarking on several years of touring and many hours of creative exploration. Other conservatory study included Berklee College Of Music as a teenager and City College Of New York for Audio Engineering in Harlem. He has traveled and performed on five continents and across the United States.
Also an accomplished songwriter and a published author (Midnight Shining Sun, 2010), Berg completed his first Hip Hop mixtape “Return Voyage” in November 2011 featuring an eclectic selection of classic and personally signficicant tracks. “I have been freestyling since Brooklyn college days”, Berg explains, “but to actually sit down and put a mixtape together has been a truly liberating challenge and a profound coming-together for me personally. As an artform Hip Hop combines and amplifies everything I have learned thus far as an artist.” Coming this Fall 2013 will be the debut full-length original album, “American Rhapsody” featuring Mountainwalker and producer Kulhed among a full cast of incredible guests including The Nashville Horns, Troy House, Christine Garland, Jo’shua Odine, among many others.
Currently, Mountainwalker’s live show is a kinetic solo act featuring turntables, video projection, double bass, keyboards, and rotating cast of auxiliary guests. “My hope for the coming year”, says Berg, “is to put together a full live band for future Mountainwalker material with myself on upright and fender bass.”
Other current and continuing projects include: a second mixtape, an audio book version of “Midnight Shining Sun”, the on-going unaccompanied short video series “Monologues”, plus a variety of recorded and live projects with the Diatribe Hip Hop Group which hosts a monthly showcase in Nashville called “A Night With The Most High”.
