After the success of psychedelic folk outfit The Migrant, frontman Bjarke Bendtsen is ready to transcend furthermore into electronic folk-rock territory with the release of his latest project Rainbrother’s debut album Tales From The Drought, out on 3rd February 2017 via General Bird.

Tales From The Drought is all about making your way whilst on the road, dwelling on memories both beautiful and troublesome and coming to terms with the decisions that have been made. Album opener ‘Riverside’ is a stunning piece of songwriting that carries you away into the abyss and as the album continues, so do your thoughts. Each one a little more comforting than the next. Tales From The Drought invites the listener into a speckled dream, filled with steady beats, wistful Pink Floyd inspired guitar slides and a storytelling charm akin to the likes of Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

No clue.. You are what you eat?

What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?

Writing songs is like writing a diary where you decide what happened today. It’s the best! And music is healing and massaging the soul. It’s just great if other people can use it for the same purpose, or something similar.

And it’s good for your heart to play rock’n roll. And you get attention. And you don’t need to call and ask friends if they wanna go out for a beer if you’re already playing and drinking with your band. It’s quite convenient.

Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?

Everything influences your creativity. It’s best if you don’t think so much about it and best if you don’t have to do too many things you don’t wanna do. That can sort of dry you out I think, and then you need to be watered which could happen in many ways, maybe just by doing nothing. Or maybe go for a swim or a hotdog. Or kiss someone.

As for music (and other things), I guess my taste buds have changed a bit over time but some times I also think they might just have moved around a little and might be still all the same. But you need some variation and it’s not fun eating eggs every day. And some days I need sort of a kick in the belly and other days a gentle stroke. It could be Deerhoof one day and Erik Satie the next.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

Not really, just having fun and seeing where the songs would take us. But I’ve been settling down after a long period of traveling and that has probably affected the moods and sounds on the record.

What was the last song you listened to?

Ha, when mentioning Erik Satie one minute ago I thought wow it’s a long time since I’ve actually listened to him and decided that today was a day for him. It’s also very grey and Novemberish in Copenhagen at the moment so not a very surprising choice, really.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Vinyl. But actually listening to a good old downloaded MP3 right now.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Bandcamp is great for upcoming bands like us. I haven’t personally signed up for any of the streaming services but at parties and at work it’s great to be around someone who has. If I was to sign up I’d check out who’s paying the musicians the most… Usually I’m checking out stuff on youtube or soundcloud and then go get the vinyl if it sounds awesome.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?

Don’t know really. You just gotta be happy that you’re able to write music, record it and release it and appreciate that blogs like yours are trying to make that connection to new potential listeners. Basically, enjoy the fishing… If you got a good lunch box it doesn’t matter if you catch anything. But hey we’d be obviously be thrilled to catch a big sturgeon!
