East Nashville based rockers The RA-6600 have released a jammin’ new record, Indiana Lights, full of twists, turns, grooves and a bit of humor.
Indiana Lights is a sonic adventure through pop-infused melodies, rockin’ drum grooves, and a lyrical depth that makes this record as much a novel as it does an album of music.
Painting the picture of a hero who finds himself trapped in this abridged rock opera, each song represents a journey of discovery and internal conflict as the uninspired finds inspiration, a lack of passion explodes into flames, and journey of love for another results in a greater understanding of self.
The title track, Indiana Lights, introduces us to the hero with a night of carefree, surf rockin’ ocean side views. Considering we’re in Indiana, our view is coming from a postcard hanging on the fridge; with a little help from the imagination, of course…
Hammerhead kicks off with an energy boosting hi-hat that leads into a piano groove and the ramblings of a man who tries to connect with a potential lover but, as the chorus declares, he can’t remember much of what she says.
Mellowing out for more of a melody driven ballad, Walk Into Thin Air finds our exploratory lover with enough courage to do the unthinkable for the object of his affection. The powerful build and release towards the end of the song feels like a tug-of-war between love and loss as you feel the pull of unknown forces sucking you into thin air… whether you’re ready to walk on it or not.
As happens often in pursuits of love and relationships, the muse for which our hero was ready to “Walk Into Thin Air” for, now realizes the impact of living in a dichotomous world. His muse, whom he will do anything for, is also the troubled soul he finds himself Out Till All Hours chasing. The slower, lonelier feeling soundscape sets the scene for haunting vocals that linger through the night.
Picking up the pace and getting our blood pumping again, I’ll Be There For You is an upbeat, snare snapping declaration of dedication despite the ups and downs of uncontrollable dark moods, the stresses of being a grown up, and the additional weight those things add to a relationship.
Closing out our story with bouncing piano chords, catchy harmonies, and a simple synth stab, Running Away weaves a repetitive hook and catchy falsetto with the rapping and flows of vocalist Olivas.
In summary, Indiana Lights is the musical story of a hero and heroine we can relate to quite well. The internal conflicts we all face are captured and explored in this humorous but very melodic and catchy record.
