Man…. I just got a message from one of my favorite crazy dudes, Billy Ulrich of Post Trauma. His group (sponsored by party experts, Jaggermeister) got together to make a record a few months ago. OK, so they started on it a year ago, and it’s been out for a few months. “Sleepless” has also been on my preferred playlist through Google Play since the day I got my hands on it, and is definitely one of my favorites.
You can read my review of the record and check out the tracks at Rockin’ Sleepless by Post Trauma .
So, what was the message?
That’s a secret. But hey, I’m not above leaking private information (that’s a joke, son) … this is the age of the internet and all the rules are out the window, after all…
So, here ya go, before any of your friends have a chance to beat you to the goods, one of the neatest videos I’ve seen in a while.
Now, I’m not really in the habit of reviewing a video, but I want to mention a couple things about this one, because it drives a couple points home really well.
- A good video doesn’t have to be expensive. A high quality camera, a good videographer, and some decent software go a long way. That’s not to say you should do it all yourself, it’s a good idea to hire a professional if at all possible.
- An effective video doesn’t have to be fancy. Clever use of props, lighting and minimal effects often deliver better and more engaging results than all the smoke machines and mirrors in the Ozzy arsenal.
- More important than any other aspect of a music video is that it should fit the song. Does your video tell the story that your song tells? Does the set fit the feel of the music? Sure, there are lots of great videos that are so “artsy” that they could stand on their own, but the really good ones still go with the song.
Post trauma have done all of these things very well. I’ve actually watched the whole video for “I’m That Guy” five times in one evening, just because I enjoy it.
Creating a video that people enjoy… now there’s a novel idea! Hats off to Billy and Post Trauma
