Sydney, Australia alt-country duo Peasant Moon pack a pleasant and pleasing punch on their latest EP, Our Timing Was Wrong.
In fact their timing is just right.
Back In Time kicks us off with a gentle rhythm and moves us into a light and freely flowing soundscape with a well placed and engaging bell, sweet steel guitar, hints of harmonica and a delightful vocal performance that rolls us into the next song.
The title track, Our Timing Was Wrong, delivers a bluegrass feel with more of that sweet sounding steel guitar, appealing acoustic guitar rhythms, and the perfect dose of mandolin.
Over Again begins with strong vocal harmony and potent mandolin rhythm. The song soon transitions into a strong and soothing blend of Western saloon style country music elements that are enhanced by a strong hook and excellent harmonies.
Party opens with a finger picked acoustic and a passionate vocal delivery. Displaying the dynamics of the duo, the vocals weave male and female lines for a musical conversation that sounds super sweet until the last note.
Closing out with the appropriately titled Leaving Tonight, Peasant Moon prove their strong song crafting consistency with another solid track which can stand alone as a single just like the previous four songs that preceded it.
Top notch musicianship comes courtesy of Aaron Langman on pedal steel and electric, Jonathan Kelly on bass and Rich Burrows on drums. Recorded at Love Hz Studio in Sydney with Michael Carpenter, additional electric guitar, Hammond organ and double bass found its way onto the EP. Of course, the core of this entity and the dynamic duo behind it’s existence is Harvey Russell and Josie Rothwell.
Our Timing Was Wrong is the perfect addition to any listener whose collection favors good old fashioned and warmly welcomed country, folk and Americana music.
