Sol Roots is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured around the world with many roots, blues, and funk legends. Sol and his band create a unique blend of energetic rock, greasy blues, and raw funk, all delivered with deep soul, and always drawing on a background of raw down-home blues. Sol has performed at many premier festivals and venues across the east coast US, and he and his band have co-billed with Booker T Jones, Dumpstaphunk, Soulive, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Eric Lindell, The Wood Brothers, Jon Cleary and more.
Sol has also performed on stage and in the studio with musical heavyweights Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and with the international guitar hero Cool John Ferguson (nominated 2 years -Most Outstanding Guitarist-Living Blues), who he performed with steadily for years. With Cool John, Sol has opened for the great B.B. King, Derek Trucks Band, and other musical luminaries.
Sol and down home harmonica master James “Eddie” Patterson have performed together through out the Nashville TN area as well as touring down south in Mississippi. The two collaborate often on James Eddie’s annual Patterson Blues Festival located in middle Tennessee. “Sol is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer” —Jambase
“…the shape of blues to come…” —Living Blues Magazine
“He’s toured the world with some of the biggest names in funk and blues…He’s the fiery guitarist known as Sol, and his influences span the country, and the globe” —On Tap Magazine.
“…The show also highlights the genius of Sol Roots, who has performed throughout the South fronting his own soul and rock bands, while performing with blues legends from Guitar Gabriel to Taj Mahal….” —Washington Examiner
“Sol’s playing has been described as “musical glue,” holding together many grooves and personalities. He has backed up legendary artists like Taj Mahal and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, opened for Robert Randolph, Wood Brothers, and has played with more obscure artists who have had unique perspectives and sounds. Though it all, he has learned many valuable lessons and is still able to hold on to the one thing that ties us all spiritually to one another — music.” —Jeff Reid, The Beat Magazine
“The song “Rough Catfish” plants the listener firmly back in the barrens of the Mississippi Delta, as Sol howls like a man possessed. Think of Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads” fused with Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun,” and you get some indication of what this song “feels” like. Tall comparison, I know, but this song, with its wonderful use of mood, proves worthy of the distinction.” —Evan Wade, Home Grown Music Network
