Having performed in 7 countires, 50+ US cities, and throughout Canada since the age of 16, it’s safe to say LuisGa Núñez of The Núñez Project was made for a life of musical abundance.
It was at age 16 that he started playing percussion and singing in his father’s 4-time Grammy nominated group Plena Libre. LuisGa comes from a rich history of musical heritage being passed down the bloodline. He grew up observing and playing with the best of the best musicians and that influence shows in his original creations.
LuisGa Núñez formed The Núñez Project in 2014 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Blending Puerto Rican rhythms bomba and plena with elements of Hip Hop, Jazz, Salsa and Songo, The Núñez Project brings together the vibrant music of it’s homeland with the latest and greatest styles of modern jazz music.
Once formed, it didn’t take long for the community to show their love and support for the project. The Núñez Project has found themselves performing on some of the most prestigious festivals on the island they call home. These include: the Heineken Jazz Festival – Ventana al Mar, Claridad Festival, Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian and more. The band was also invited to perform at the University of Puerto Rico and the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico.
The group headed to New York to record their first album at Doland Studio in November of 2018. The songs were performed and captured live and included contributions from some very talented musicians including: Mike Rodriguez, Alan Ferber, Camilo Molina, Janice Maisonet, Jonathan Montes, Marcos Lopez, Julito Alvarado, Angel Luis Pacheco and Furito Rios.
The Núñez Project have unleashed the lead single, Lares, from their album Historias desde Otros Lares- Stories from other Homes. If you love jazz fusion with heavy dose of Latin and Afro-Caribbean influences, then today is your lucky day!
Lares jams! It lifts you up! It makes you want to dance! And good luck trying to keep your body from doing so uncontrollably!
