The National Folk Music Festival will skip 2012 to go on a one year hiatus and begin preparation for 2013. Last year’s festival was held over Labor Day Weekend at the Bicentennial Mall.
The festival is founded by the National Council for the Traditional Arts and is held in host cities over a three year span. So far this festival has been hosted in 26 cities and seen crowds upwards of 175,000.
Although last year’s festival was an artistic success, funding was short this year – due in part to the drag of the recession and the lingering effects of the 2009 floods, according to the NCTA website.
The planning for 2013 to close out their three years in Nashville is underway. They are currently taking applications for the next city interested in hosting the 2014-2016 festivals.
