Los Angeles folk rocker Nate Newburn found himself in South Africa at age 16 where he fully immersed himself in local culture, ethnic music and beautiful landscapes.
Back in LA on a mission to protect our precious planet, Nate’s new album, Lazarburn, delivers positive protest music on an acoustic-driven sound bed that emanates uplifting melodies, catchy poly-rhythms, masterful song crafting, and top notch musicianship.
Speaking of top notch musicians, Lazarburn‘s songs were written by Nate but also include the talents of Danny Frankel (drums , percussion), Janie Cowan (bass), Gar Robertson (Ebow/Shaft guitar), Tony Patler (B3 organ), Robbi Robb (electric guitar), and, of course, Nate Newburn on acoustic guitar and vocals.
The album’s crisp, clean, powerful sound comes courtesy of mixes by Robbi Robb and Tommy Dietrick. And mastering work by Mark Fuller.
Lazarburn is potentially the most uplifting protest music I have heard yet. A mix of radio-friendly, pop aesthetics, electronic infused sonic textures, body moving rhythms, and Nathan’s honest, passionate vocal performances, there isn’t a song on this record I do not like. The opening cut, Did You Hear?, is possibly my favorite track.
In fact, I like it so much I’ve had it on repeat and lost count of how many times it’s cycled through! It’s definitely a foot stompin’, head noddin’, let the time move along and slip away type of listening experience.
