After failing at my attempts to lock down an interview with the enigmatic Dance/EDM collective Mullaha, I managed to get some information from their management about the group and what they’re up to.
I recently heard their new single Maka and the level of complexity and energy that has been channeled into this piece immediately triggered me to try to land an interview feature.
However, Mullaha are not an easy group to get in touch with as I quickly learned. A collective dedicated to their art and their craft, Mullaha are not easily pulled away from their work.
It became quickly obvious that Mullaha are not disorganized but more enigmatic in their correspondences. It is apparent in their music that their broad range of styles and ideas, sometimes within the same record, is the work of a collective of individuals varying in background and taste.
All I can tell is from our rare moments of conversation is that they are in the studio a lot, collaborating consistently but have no problem turning away promotional opportunities that allow them to discuss their work.
Judging from their discography and style of releasing their works over the last 3 years, although slow and seldom in releases, have an implication and statement of the digital age, having no physical releases. And they all have a particular theme to each release, some having hidden messages contained, giving the impression that perhaps all these releases are somehow connected.
We still don’t know too much about this collective but you can learn and hear more at Mullaha.com.
