Morty Shallman is one of those hidden gems you know exists but you just haven’t found it yet.
After connecting with Jeff Blue (known for discovering Linkin Park) and Steve Dresser, the trio came together like Voltron to write and record two tracks for Morty’s upcoming EP. One of those songs is the infectious and very popular She’s Breaking Bad.
Mashing together elements of 80s synth pop and modern electro pop, Morty and his co-writers created a thrilling, infectious single which walks us through the chapter of Pop Fiction (the album) in which our flawed anti-hero is led astray by a stunning femme fatale who might have malicious deeds on her mind.
The entire neo pop, indie noir concept thriller (aka Pop Fiction) is a collection of 4 really tasty, infectious electro pop jams (with interludes leading into each chapter) which walks us through the entire story of a flawed anti-hero and his journey through the wasted scenes of Rock Island.
I love concept albums and this is one of the best ones I have heard in quite a while. The production, the song crafting, the story line… it all fits together extremely well into a cohesive sonic novel.
On another note, Morty Shallman is the co-songwriter behind former Nickelodeon TV Star Drake Bell’s hit single Highway to Nowhere. This song has been featured on The Drake and Josh Show, Zoey 101, Bell’s first solo CD, Telegraph, and on multiple top-selling Nickelodeon/BMG soundtrack compilations.
Like I said in the beginning, Morty Shallman is one of those hidden gems you just haven’t discovered yet.
