Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am from Houston, Texas. I haven’t necessarily landed on a specific genre for my music because everything I have been recording or creating sounds completely different from the song before it. Most of them would be considered pop or indie-pop, but some songs have more of an acoustic/singer-songwriter feel while others are more dark and daunting. I like to experiment, which keeps writing interesting for me.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
Music has always been something I was interested in since as long as I can remember, as I got older and began to write songs I found other people who were singer-songwriters and began to network and meet people who liked my music and supported me. I find that there is always something I have yet to learn about the music industry and that really motivates me to keep writing and playing shows so I can learn everything I possibly can.
Who or what are your biggest influences when it comes to your creativity?
My main creative influences would have to be Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. I admire both the songwriting talent they have and their ability to craft lyrics, alongside respecting their business strategy for how they run their career.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
The music video release for FINE is totally different from anything else I have released because it is my first music video. With the video I really wanted to capture some of the specific details and the overall feel of the song which I feel we did, so it was very exciting to see lyrics of the song sort of come to life.
Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?
Technology and social media is critical in todays modern society for artists to get their name out there. It is difficult when you first start to build followers and a fan base, but over time once you have a following going it is very beneficial. It not only helps artists like me gain fans, but also get on radio and playlists so I can share my music with more people.
How do you feel about streaming services? Any romantic attachments to the physical formats: vinyl, 8-track, cassettes, CDs?
Streaming services are good for artists to get on playlists and stations to expand their fan base and have more people hear their music, but CDs and vinyl’s are still fun. I have a record player and I love getting a vinyl of my new favorite album to play, and I still enjoy getting CDs for the bonus and hidden tracks artists will put on there.
