MusicTree Festival History
In 2012 Manchester hosted the first MusicTree Festival, a Independent Music Festival. MusicTree was created by a group of friends to help celebrate the Festival Season and the arrival of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival to Manchester annually. The cultural and unique vibes that Bonnaroo has brought to Manchester for over a decade have layered a generation, a group that has fully embraced the music scene and what Music means to Manchester, Tennessee. In the first year over 80 bands made their way to Manchester to play in 7 venues across the city. Band from across the state and nation made their way down to Manchester to tail gate with the city of Manchester as everyone prepared to welcome Bonnaroo back. Since that first day over 200 independent Bands have graced the stages set up @ “MusicTree Venues”. While Bonnaroo has brought a massive influx of revenue to the Middle Tennessee region, the local impact of Bonnaroo was never fully realized as campers typically started making their way to and out of the city in the most efficient way possible. This limited the interaction with local restaurants, pubs, and other establishments. This called for inovation from the local’s and a break away from the mentality that Bonnaroo’s impact is only Bonnaroo’s responsibility. Enter MusicTree into the equation. Founders carefully developed a strategy that would invite locals, regional folks, and Bonnaroo patrons into the city and into local businesses not to just spend dollars but to enjoy the cultural impact of music in Manchester and the southern hospitality that can only be experienced in the heart of Southern Middle Tennessee. MusicTree views the relationship Bonnaroo has with the Community as a Partnership. Manchester is Bonnaroo’s Home, a home they deeply care about and take care of. It is our goal to complement their efforts and help grow the cultural impact Music can have on the region. Organizers later developed the MusicTrEEE Impact. This program concentrates on three specific areas: Education, Environment, and Economy. The mission of the Impact is to insure that the efforts of the community are realized through various quality of life sectors. MusicTree gauges the festivals success on year round impact in the community and this program allows MusicTree to advance the festivals mission by focusing on issues that will achieve results and develop music’s roll even further in the area. Each year more and more people come to Manchester a few days early for Bonnaroo and they become part of the MusicTree family. The State of Tennessee’s Tourism Commissioner, Susan Witaker, has deemed Manchester “Tennessee’s Hippest Little Town” and MusicTree “A tail gate party for Bonnaroo”. So it is with open arms that we here at MusicTree welcome you to Manchester and welcome you to join the MusicTree Family. Welcome to Festival Town USA!
