Mellify is the Orlando-based singer/songwriter duo of Matthew and Rebecca Campbell with guest appearances from their daughter Melody.
Their new album, A Human Experience Part I, is a sonic tapestry woven with bluesy saxophone runs, chunky, rhythmic guitars, a touch of synths and uplifting mantras to help your spirits stay high and focused on the positive side of life.
Mellify creates rock with a message. The message is one based in positive life transformation and Mellify uses their music to touch the soul bringing healing and change through uplifting lyrics. All while telling an engaging tale…
A Human Experience Part I tells the story of a musician who stumbles upon the “magic gift” from a yoga teacher. This gift enables the young creative to hear the guiding, child-like voice from the other side.
Combining elements from pop, rock and alternative styles, Mellify has created a solid album with a positively transforming message. From the James Taylor-esque acoustic guitar to the bluesy saxophone runs, A Human Experience Part I is as sonically soothing as it is meditative.
If you’re familiar with the Hero’s Journey, A Human Experience Part I is Mellify’s version of that story in musical form.
Taking us on a sonic voyage through 13 songs and approximately an hour of time, Mellify manages to capture the essence of a wide range of styles from The Beatles’ Sgt. Peppers’ era all the way to Dream Theater’s prog-rock intensity.
My one criticism is that I would like to hear the vocal tracks a little more wet with a dash of reverb. There are a few moments where I felt like the vocals were a bit dry and could have snuggled into the music a bit more tightly.
However, A Human Experience Part I is only half the story so be on the lookout for the upcoming Part 2.
A Human Experience Part I is now available.
