Madame Z is laying down strong roots in her new album: Down the Rabbit Hole.
This is a narrative rich album filled with soul and a kind of controlled rage that sears the surface of the story being told. Right from the gritty, blood on your teeth opening of “All The Things I Hate About You” it is clear that as we follow her into Wonderland, Madame Z has a story to tell. One that is challenging, cathartic and deeply personal.
She makes it easy to listen. Her big, resonant tones are deceptively delicate as she moves through songs like “Pieces of Me” and “Sore” with a voice that evokes the dark, smoke filled speakeasy’s of the roaring twenties – passionate and defiant and at times, sad.
Down the Rabbit Hole is a high recommend for a jazzy summer soundtrack with an R&B soul.
