Mad Hugs first learned to record using a tape deck at the tender age of 4. By age 16, he was fully immersed in punk music. He soon moved onto piano and began producing music electronically in 2000. Now working as producer for the group Mad Osc as well as releasing music solo, Mad Hugs has delivered an engaging, well crafted track list of instrumental-idm-trip-hop titled Illuminated Shadow.
Illuminated Shadow is Mad Hugs newest contribution to the world of music. After 20 years of creating and releasing approximately 100 albums, it’s safe to say Mad Hugs has found his groove, knows how to get into his flow state and just allows the music to release itself.
From the moment I clicked play on the first track (Temple), I entered a sonic landscape unlike any I have previously explored. As the album progresses, each track seamlessly melts into the next for a journey through the creative mind of an individual who has dedicated his life to the art of combining rhythms, melodies and noises into sonic tapestries of vivid color you can’t necessarily “see” but can definitely hear (and feel).
However, closing your eyes, quieting your mind and allowing the music to lead you where it may could lead to self-generated vivid imagery. Illuminated Shadow is most definitely an album you can fully immerse yourself in without a dull moment to spare.
I highly encourage you to listen to the album in its entirety. If you are pressed for time or only want to check out a few songs, I recommend: Temple, Quick Sand Paper, Depression, or Blinking Dots, Fire Alarm.
