Hitting us with an album packed with masterfully crafted, immaculately produced songs that range from infectious pop to more relaxing reggae and rumba vibes to mixing tango-flamenco with an 808 drum machine, Macaco delivers a powerful and tasty sonic punch with his new album, Civilizado Como Los Animales.
The title of the album comes from phrase recorded by Brazilian singer-songwriter Roberto Carlos in 1977. The song featuring this phrase was one of the first ecological anthems in Latin music history. The song was banned in Argentina by then-dictator General Jorge Rafael Videla.
Intriguing history lesson aside, Macaco worked with a team of highly talented producers that helped achieve the supreme sound quality found throughout the album. This team included Rafa Arcaute (Calle 13, Residente, Aterciopelados) and Raül ‘Fernández’ Refree (Lee Ranaldo, Kiko Veneno, Rosalía), however, most of the songs were also co-produced by Macaco and his long-time guitarist, Tomas “Tirtha” Rundquist, who co-founded the Swedish-Spanish indie rock group Undrop in the 90s.
Joining Macaco on Civilizado Como Los Animales are musical talents: Niño de Elche, Visitante (Calle13, Trending Tropics), Bego Salazar (Las Migas), Jorge Drexler, Monsieur Periné, Nach, Juanito Makandé, Antonio Carmona, Estopa, El Kanka, El Canijo de Jerez, Mr. Kilombo, Silvia Pérez Cruz and Miss Bolivia.
You will also find spoken word pieces on this project performed by Antonio Escohotado, Joan Manuel Serrat, Inma Cuesta, José Luís Algar and Oscar Jaenada.
