Luka Veselinovic comes from a musical family including his father who is a guitarist for the commercial pop band “Opatijski Suveniri” as well as his grandmother who is a classical piano teacher.
Starting at age 6, Luka studied piano for 3 years but eventually gave it up. With no intention of living a musician’s life, Luka went on to study art history and painting but when punk band, Ventili, needed a bass player, Luka decided to help out.
He fell in love with music all over again, specifically the bass guitar, and has been living the life ever since.
Based in Croatia, Mr. Veselinovic moved to Zagreb to have more opportunities to play music.
He started a band “Labyrinth”, with Dalibor and Marko Matosevic, and in 2008 they recorded a jazz CD with original jazz compositions under the label of Dallas Records , with guest musicians Sasa Nestorovic, Matija Dedic and Kristian Terzic.
Luka began performing at jazz fests across Croatia. He then continued expanding his creative talents by playing with other top notch musicians, playing with other bands, and working as a session musician.
His newest release, Magnetic Whale, includes 6 tracks of jazz improv served with a side of awesomesauce. Luka’s bass playing shines through on every composition as his grooves join forces with brass, percussion, and piano to create a soundscape nothing short of stimulating.
After listening through several times, I notice something new and interesting each time.
If you are interested in some amazing jazz improv with Croatian flare, go enjoy Magnetic Whale as much as we have been.
