The Lonestar State’s Joel Warren is back in the saddle and on a mission to fight Domestic Violence. His new record, “Straight Up Country” is out and, like the debut album, is climbing charts all over the U.S. Country scene. Included on the record is an all new recording of the powerful song, “God Fearin’ Man”. Joel has teamed up with Bridges Domestic Violence Center, which “serves women, men, and their children affected by domestic violence, ensuring a safe transition to successful independent living through education, intervention, and case management.” Joel is donating all proceeds from the tune to support their efforts.
I’ve known Joel via internet for almost a year now, and I can tell you that this young man lives and breaths traditional country music. His songs are real, honest, and smooth as Tennessee sippin’ corn. And his years of ropin’ steers obviously taught him some serious dedication.I enjoyed every minute of “Straight Up Country”, but don’t take my word for it, this is what Chuck Dauphin of Music News Nashville said of the new record:
“This is old school Country, as traditional as it gets. Ace Nashville fiddler Rob Hajacos and Michael Douchette (steel) lay some nice licks on the song. It is one of those cuts that just needs to be heard.”
I caught up with Joel on the phone for a brief interview, we talked about growin’ up on the ranch, ridin’ in the rodeo, and of course, the new record.
