Introduce yourself to our readers and describe the style of music you create.
We are Little Riddles, an Americana band from Minneapolis, MN. The primary features of our music are driving rhythms, fiddle solos, and three-part harmonies.
Who or what influences your playing and/or writing styles? Also, what motivates you to keep creating?
Many of our songs focus on the narrative of opposing forces, a story present in so much of Western literature. I think our songs are the subconscious result of that deeply embedded narrative. I put as little conscious thought into the songs as possible. It’s an old songwriting phrase, “The more you think, the more you stink.”
What was the last song you listened to?
“Pretty Good” by John Prine.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?
I picked up the guitar for the first time three years ago so I still consider myself in my musical infancy. I had no idea about all of the clerical and administrative work associated with maintaining all of a band’s assets, relationships, and growth. This has been our biggest challenge. As far as attracting listeners, we’ve found that the music speaks for itself once we’re in front of people. It’s more just a matter of playing enough shows and keeping the band together long enough to get in front of enough folks.
Do you gig, tour or perform through any live streaming services? Where can music lovers see you perform?
We do not, but that’s only because we hadn’t thought of doing that!
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?
Facebook or our website.
Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?
These are good questions. Thanks for asking them!
